ugh, what a downer; i know.

Most days when i wake up (usually around now - 3:3opm), i roll over and gently wake up my computer; which had a long night of playing some random movie that I fell asleep to(last night it was Santa Sangre).  then jumping on the internet i hit my usual 3-4 stomping ground sites; one of which being The Guardian. I'm not really sure why I chose them to be my daily news source; its' gotta be something to do w/ the way they spell 'colour'.

Anyways, browsing the headlines I find out about these videos which are apparently banned in China. But what I found to be more interesting was the site hosting the videos, Wikileaks.org.

"Wikileaks is developing an uncensorable Wikipedia for untraceable mass document leaking and analysis ... Wikileaks opens leaked documents up to stronger scrutiny than any media organization or intelligence agency can provide. Wikileaks provides a forum for the entire global community to relentlessly examine any document for its credibility, plausibility, veracity and validity. Communities can interpret leaked documents and explain their relevance to the public."

Truth be told, I'm into world politics, political theory, and general stuff which causes most Miami Eyes to glaze over; probably an inherent trait to those growing up in/around DC.

That said, here's one of my favorite tracks from Bad Brains!

Vinyl Rip (Part 1 of 1)

All my shit is in storage -- but when I was proactive at the old crib, before living here(scroll down) I recorded a couple tracks off vinyl. This track is Jimmy James Thomas' funky "I Can't Dance". It's on a bunch of compilations; and has been reissued a couple times -- but here you get it lazy point-n-click style.

There's an edit of this song floating around as well -- if you've got it -- hook it up.

Miami's OMD fam get some shine

MAP Magazine's latest issue has some coverage on my Miami family doin our thing.

And another article on Winter Music Conference that I've got some quotes in.

These may be too small to read -- but there's a pdf on their website u can download or flip through. Contains such memorable 'zingers' as:

"WMC hitting Miami is like only being able to spray your dirty ass sheets with Febreze once a year. You're still sleeping in them, but at least they smell good for a week."

Also, here's a rough mix I put together for the DVS Skate Co. -- 1 of 3 parts that myself, Induce & Doormouse were supposed to work out . . . but you know how "doing things" turns out in Miami.

Also -- whenever I load up the blog the divshare players don't show up in my browser -- but work on others'. Lemme know if it works for you!

still bloggin

man, a good 24 hours later -- and i'm still bloggin. so impressed. usually i give up pretty quick on these kinds of 'projects'.

especially now that i'm doing edits etc. I'll come up w/ the idea; which is amazing. i'll maybe even put it into ableton; realizing that this is turning into a legitimate 'project'. then, if i'm lucky, i'll start setting up some markers.

and then, maybe after 10-20-30 minutes of marking up, slicing, redrawing this one audio file, i'll get so tired/bored that i've got to stop. and you know that whole notion of "picking up where you left off"? m'eh. overrated.

anyways, somehow i get some things done, sometimes. By "done" of course, i mean that I just stopped at an agreeable spot. So here are some "would've been something, but i'd rather move forward with not finishing other things" song-things.

First is a killer cover of the Temptations song "Cloud Nine" by Mongo Santamaria that I tempo'ed, extended, effect-ed, and otherwise worked with:

*Edit: Also, here's the OG Temptations song --- but the INSTRUMENTAL(well, its got some vocals on it)!

Second is my first mash/blend/edit thang from forever ago (like way before u got her leaked advance song). Franki Chan posted it up a while ago; a couple days later he posted an edit up that Franki & Jake did. I still believe that their edit beat out mine in downloads just cuz of franki's photo.

So here's my attempt at a 2nd wind. Thought process for this one was: Diplo(docus) = dinosaur. Maya = zany.

Dear SXSW

Dear SXSW,

You are like a shitty boyfriend that I can't totally break up with. You are sometimes super hot and at other times incredibly cold. You are moody and self obsessed. Only a small portion of the company you keep is any good. You do way too many drugs and drink more than a frat house full of college boys. You always keep me waiting around. you are tiring. You are loud. You never have a place to stay. You are never on the list. You are boring and at the same time absolutely insane. chaotic, full of surprises and still you can be totally lame. At your worst you are absolute torture and at your best you are way fun. I ask myself why I always do this to myself and go back, but I can never really come up with a good answer. You don't really have THAT much to offer me except a few good memories and maybe some awesome photos we've taken together. sadly, I'm not sure that's enough for you to hold my attention anymore. Unless you come up with the goods, I'm quittin you for real this time!

love,
Amanda

PS learn how to fuck.

THE GYM!!

So, I went to the gym for the first time in probably a year and a half. Did some running, then felt like i was gonna pass out on the elevator ride up back to the APT. But after the nausea and dizziness wore off, not gonna lie,I felt pretty good. Had a vision of a life without cigarettes or drinking, a life where I ate fruit everyday and always chose the "soy" alternative, but then those thoughts led me to patchouli oil, incense, and a linen shirt for some reason. I guess it has to do with my fear of hippies, which is strange cause hippies dont frequent the gyme at all, and the ones i know arent healthy either, maybe its neo hippie im afraid of. The one that blasts rusted root out of his BMW sedan instead of a VW van. Anyways, for now ill keep on running and smoking and drinking....and leave you with this song...

Guadalajara post

So a couple weeks(?) ago, I was in Guadalajara for the MXBeat Festival, djing for Santogold.  Super fun time, met up w/ Dave1 from Chromeo and the Flosstradamus cats(who basically gave me the rundown on how their 'joke' brought them to that point in mexico playing a 2,000 person rave cave).  But all of their conversation couldn't hold my attention over this guy:

Elohim -- drummer for a big mexican heavy rock band.
here's two videos i uploaded from that night - and another one i found round dem internets; where towards the end he's just using his fists.

You can see Floss's 'edge' draining away as they realize they have to follow up this guys act.

I would like this guy to be at the next Contrapalooza!

This here songs for the weak bloggers out there w/ their 1 or 2 posts a day(if that!). That shits for chumps. This here's a ultra-high quality tune for them.

OLD HAT!

Blogs are so 2 years ago...

Didn't go to SXSW, butt.

this was a pretty cool flyer for a party out there -- and apparently the band Torche is from Miami.  I haven't heard any of their songs, but trusting in these press photos, they ROCK, and HARD!

1st track off the debut album from The Glimmers 'Gee Gee Fazzi'

Wish You Were Here, Greetings from Miami

Well, it appears we are awakening the beast that is THE ONE MORE DAY BLOG.....lesss gooooooooooo.

I'm starting it off with a taste of what we have going for WMC...

All these people under one roof is guaranteed insanity.....

One a side note Blu Jemz has posted a new song on his myspace that i cant stop listening to.....the song is called MY SHARONA peep it. Video to be filmed during WMC, get ready...

Sweeet! I'm bloggin!

It only took me over a year to get on board w/ this blog. In some veins, for me, that's pretty good. In comparison, it took me almost three weeks to have corrective surgery on my dismantled ankle when I fractured it in 4 places ---- driving to/from work w/ my left foot for that whole time (no sick days) was pretty much like pouring salt into my eye if salt was battery acid and my eye was a baby me, w/ 2 broken ankles.
But anyways, now that i'm on - I'm looking to break all OMD bloggin records ----- and judging by the scant posts i see so far -- I should be able to do that . . . . um, by next week.

As far as the 'getting on hype machine' quest for this OMD blog -- i went to their site to try and find out if maybe I have to surrender some fake information by registering . . . but there's just a bunch of text on their page, and imagine all the time i'd waste reading that! Couldn't they just have a zshare link? DOWNLOAD INTO MY BRAIN!

so here's a new portishead track, cuz induce is listening to massive attack right now. he's so '94 it hurts.

Portishead - Machine Gun

St. Jah Patricks Day!

Joel Meinholz - of Chocolate Sunday/Purdy Lounge fame, wanted me to post this track - cuz it fit his mood at the time. well, it also totally fits St Patricks Day. Its a cover of a Bob Marley song --- he played soccer, and was totally Irish.

DJ Krush & Toshinori Kondo - Sun Is Shining

And this is a little experiment into how to get onto Hype Machine etc -- Here's a yet to be released, leaked on a crazy turkish(?) blog i found, song off of Jamie Lidell's new album 'Jim'.

Jamie Lidell - Out Of My System
